Acceptance of these Terms
By creating an API key, calling the PermitStream.dev API, or otherwise using this website (together, the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you're using the Service on behalf of a company, you're confirming you have the authority to bind that company to these terms.
What the Service is
PermitStream.dev provides a normalized, queryable API for North American municipal building-permit data, sourced from the public open-data portals each covered city already publishes. We don't issue permits, represent any municipality, or verify records beyond the normalization described in our data pipeline.
Accounts and API keys
A free-tier API key is issued instantly via self-serve signup; paid tiers are activated through Stripe Checkout once you hold a key. Your API key is a credential, not a username — keep it secret, don't share it across unrelated projects, and contact us immediately if you believe it's been exposed. You're responsible for all activity made with your key.
Acceptable use
Use the Service only within the rate limits and monthly call caps of your plan. Don't attempt to circumvent rate limiting, resell raw API access as a competing data feed, or use the Service to build a profile of, or make decisions targeting, a private individual identified in the data.
Data accuracy — please read this section
THE SERVICE AND ALL PERMIT DATA ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ANY WARRANTY OF ACCURACY, MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. Data is sourced from third-party municipal systems we don't control. We normalize and clean records but do not guarantee their accuracy, completeness, or timeliness. Don't rely on this data as legal, financial, or professional advice, or as the sole basis for a decision with real financial or legal consequences — verify anything material against the issuing municipality directly.
Fees and billing
Paid tiers are billed through Stripe on a recurring subscription basis. You can view invoices, change tiers, or cancel anytime through the Stripe-hosted billing portal linked from our pricing page. Fees already charged for the current billing period are non-refundable except where required by law.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, PermitStream.dev is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including decisions made using permit data obtained through it. In no event will PermitStream.dev's total, aggregate liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service exceed the total fees you paid us for the Service during the one (1) month immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold PermitStream.dev harmless from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or relating to a third party's claim in connection with your use of the Service or the permit data obtained through it — including any decision you make, product or service you build, or representation you make, based on that data.
Suspension and termination
We may suspend or revoke an API key that violates these terms, including abusive traffic patterns or attempts to bypass rate limits. You can stop using the Service, or cancel a paid subscription, at any time.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the Service evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page.
